[musictlk] knowing the set list for a gig.

Hi, Robert,

When I used to lead a band, I often wore a tuxedo or a suit coat. I would
braille the set list and fold it a bit and keep it in my inside coat pocket.
On a good day, I could even reach in there and check the next tune without
anyone knowing it. You might even try brailling on index cards or
something smaller than 8.5 x 11 paper which I used.

If you don't wear jackets when you perform with your band, you could put
that index card in your back pocket. The braille wears out pretty quick but
it'll get you through the gig at least. Attaching to the back of the bass
also sounds like a workable idea.

When I did that kind of work, I generally led the job so I could do pretty
much what I wanted. I did work as a side man for a few other leaders and
some guys were pickier than others about how the band looked. Braille is
great because we can read a sheet of braille taped to the underside of a
chair, in a coat pocket, etc.

BTW, did you or anyone ever hear the classic spoof interview produced by (I
think) National Lampoon of Mr. Rogers interviewing a jazz bass player? Very
funny stuff.

Regards,
Bill

Hi Marion
thanks for the feedback
since i play an electric bass I of cource can not put it on the top of my
guitar but I suppose I could do as Jim said and glue it to the back of my
bass. also I again was wondering if it would visually not work well to put
the list on a sheet music stand just off to my rite so I can refer to it.
Like I said this is all new to me and I want to start out doing it rite I
will keep you all posted as to when I am going to be touring through your
towns. Grin.
Not to sell myself short but that is not likely to happen since our aim is
to stay locle and only do about 2 shows per month since so far 2 of the guys
in the band are guys with small children that they want to be there to
raise, an that is a very good thing.
BTW Marion how is your CD working out for you?
Robertt

Robert,
I think using Braille is an excellent way to handle this! It will help
you, as well as let others see how useful Braille can be in such a
situation.
I use Braille to keep my song list during shows. I play an acoustic
guitar and use rubber cement to attach the song list to the top of my
guitar. Rubber cement peels off very easily and causes no damage to the
finish. HTH!

Fraternally yours,
Marion Gwizdala
