I'm typically a big fan of Zoom stuff. The ZoomH6 was just released but the H4N is still a decent recorder. To get really wide stereo field recordings, your best bet is to get an Olympus LS14, paired with a set of master series mics from
soundprofessionals.com. I have an LS7 with standered binaural microphones, and the wide spread is impressive. I hope this helps. The Olympus recorders do not have XLR ins, but the Zoom does which would be nice for external condenser mics.
