FYI: 
Having a chaperone, even if you call them an employment specialist, looks
very bad. It makes you look like you're incapable of going to an interview
on your own. You do realize that this could be hurting your chances of
gaining meaningful employment even more or just as much as them knowing that
you're blind, right?
Sighted people, and most blind people, don't take a helper/escort to
interviews with them.
He likely doesn't go with you because really, he's not needed.
and, I might add, if you were collecting SSI benefits, you could afford
transportation to and from said interviews.
Where he is needed, is if/when there's assessments to be scheduled and
accommodated. don't give potential employers reason to be overwhelmed, and
to view you as problematic. You won't get hired that way. You want them to
view you as educated, confident, capable, and independent.

Oh I forgot to mention that I too have an employment specialist 
and that is not what I was told.  I was told to disclose when the 
interview is scheduled and I have confirmation of it so the 
employer knows ahead of time and they will be less likely to make 
judgments.
