Hi Sarah,

What part of Texas do you live in?

I am Lisa Hall, a Certified Braille Transcriber by NLS and a Braille
Proofreader for Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired in
Cincinnati, Ohio. I used to live in San Antonio, Texas for 11 years from May
1995 through June 30th, 2006. I have been in Cincinnati, Ohio from July 8,
2006 until present.
When I first started working for Clovernook I was making $9.00 per hour.
Each year during your anniversary date, a review performance is done and
determination of increasing salary is usually done at that time.
Since I have been at Clovernook over the past two years, I have had two
increases if my memory is correct. By the time I get back from NFB
convention, it will be going 3 years.
I hope you can make it to this year's NABOP meeting on July 3 in Detroit.
The agenda for NFB convention is on the NFB's web site at www.nfb.org.
I believe it may be under National Convention.
I would be happy to serve as a mentor if you are interested in this field.
Write to me privately if you wish at the email address listed below.

Sincerely,

Lisa Hall, Braille Proofreader
Former BANA Representative for Clovernook Center for the Blind and Visually
Impaired
Cincinnati, Ohio

Hello Sarah and listers,

First, as far as customer service goes, the Colorado Center for the
Blind (CCB) has a customer-service training course. I am not sure if you can

get anything similar at Chris Cole Rehab Center, but you could ask.

As for Braille transcribing and proofreading, you're asking a full-time
proofreader. I took the Braille Transcribing and Proofreading Course through

the Library of Congress by correspondence. There is no time limit to finish
the course; it's all self-paced. Go to the Web site http://www.braille.org
and enter on the link about Braille transcribing and proofreading. You will
find out who to contact and how to get your materials. Should you enroll in
the course, I would be happy either to mentor you or answer any questions
you may have.

In the meantime, thank you for your question.

Mary Donahue, Vice President, NABOP
