There's a free one that works relatively well and is still being improved
called NVDA.

Subject: [nabs-l] Screen reading software

Hi all,

I was just wondering if there might be screen reading software available
that is less expensive than Jaws?

A friend of mine really needs it, but the VR counsellor is refusing to get
it for him.

Thanks,

Jen
