Good question, I've been wondering that too.

SO, does this mean that just because I am a member of this
mailing list I
am also a member of NABS? Or what does it mean to be a member of
NABS?

Well said. I believe the definition of being a "member" of NABS
should
be loose. We want to share information and network with all
blind
students, whether or not they have chosen to be actively involved
in
the Federation. Of course, we welcome the contributions of those
of
you who decide to pay dues, vote and/or run for offices, but we
don't
exclude anyone from our listserv, conference calls or meetings.
At our convention business meeting, we do have a system for
ensuring
that only paid members vote. When you pay your $5 dues, you will
get a
set of ballots to use for voting. If you do not wish to pay the
$5,
you are more than welcome to attend our meeting, but you will not
be
able to vote.

Correct,
the payment of dues means that you may Vote ( in officer
elections, on constitutional amendments, or any other action
item) or
hold an elected office.
If you decide to not pay dues, you obviously cannot do those
things. however you can do everything else you have been
doing. (
and we'll still love you!). and you can still help us change
what it
means to be a blind student.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but mainly paying dues allows
one to vote
in
elections and to run for leadership positions. But if you want
to keep in
touch with NABS, be on the list etc you don't need to pay. Is
this right?
I paid happily last year at convention, but this year I haven't
been able
to
get rid of a concert on July 7th and I just can't be there,
which means
that
I can't pay either :).

hello all,
Kirt has, in short, said what I would have.
We are working on getting pay pal in place on the nabs site,
but
for now those who wish to be members can sign up to do so on the
nabs
page and pay dues at the meeting. (it also says on the page
where
you sign up to be a member that dues are collected at
washington
seminar and at national convention)
Best,
Darian

Jorge,
At national convention, there is a NABS business meeting where
you
pay dues (if you want to be a voting member), and they keep a
running
list of all the people who do.

Hello all.
Just had two observations.
First: the "terms of service" page does not seem to work.
At least for me it shows a "page does not exist" error.
And secondly:
for the purposes of organization, what is the system for
tracking
members?
The reason I'm asking is because the constitution states that we
"must
pay
dues" but there seems to be no way of tracking how many members
we
have
and
therefore it seems to be that unless you personally make a check
to
NABS,
NABS leadership has no way of noing weather all those who should
pay
have.
Am I correct in this thought or is there something I'm missing?
Thanks,
Jorge
