And Washington Seminar. What about the people who attend
Washington Seminar, where people can pay dues to NABS but there
are no elections, but not national convention, where there are
elections in which people who have paid dues either at convention
or at Washington Seminar can vote? According to the NABS
constitution, anyone who has and continues to pay dues (either at
national convention or Washington Seminar) have the right to vote
in a NABS election, which only happens at national convention.
Therefore, currently, contributing members of NABS have the right
to vote at national convention. That implies that those people
can pay dues either at national convention or at Washington
Seminar. But, if someone is a contributing member, but can't for
some reason attend the national convention where the elections
are held, that person can't exercise the right to vote granted to
them in the NABS constitution. That is Jorge's point. Is this
making any kind of sense?

and affiliated student division I am aware of. Besides, as

local Boards of Elections would have to essentially do the same
thing with absentee ballots. How would they know that multiple
votes aren't being added by one person? The ballots are in
hardcopy print. How could this work for NABS? Hardcopy Braille
and large print! It seems simple to me. And, if the whole
convention would want this, I say let them. That is, if the
board votes in favor of the proposed amendment if said proposed
amendment were proposed to be added to the NFB constitution.

In theory this is a good suggestion. But lets be realistic
here.
This would
be a complicated process of tallying the votes. If the students
were to do
this, the general convention would want this too. Its sad that
those who
can't be there can't vote, but that is where those who can't be
there,
should get involved to elect those who they feel would do the
best job
possible.
Say if you were to have a online way to take votes, how are you
going to
distinguish from those who are really not going to those who are
going to
convention but who want to vote and add votes to a particular
person
running.
Now correct me someone if I am wrong, isn't it true that you can
run, not
necessarily be there, and be elected? Or must you be present?
Different
divisions do this differently.

legal and of
good practice, in all elections pertaining to the business of
this
organization.

The defense I put forth for this amendment is simple: if we are
to be a
democratic organization, and if we are truly the "voice of the
Nation's
blind" we must realize there are students who will not be able
to
attend but
who have paid dues, and these students must be recognized and
given the
chance to vote in elections. If not, we are violating our own
constitution
as article IV is doing as of this writing, by eliminating those
members who
cannot attend convention, and therein setting only a certain
portion of the
student membership to vote.
