First, I'll give you a bit of info on the viruses. The fact that your
computer is a dell has nothing to do with it getting viruses. It's what
you do, and how you do it. So, whatever system you get, get AVG and
Malwarebytes free, or if you don't want AVG get Microsoft Security
Essentials and let them go. Run Malwarebytes about once every week or
so. Also, I recommend using firefox instead of internet explorer. It's
still not 100% secure; no program is, but it offers a much smaller
attack surface.
As for the computer, if you're willing to pay for a good system, Lenovo
has some amazing thinkpads, and you can get an extended battery. One of
my friends has one, and with the $100 extended battery you get like 20
hours of battery life. I recommend getting something that is 8 gb (you
don't really need any more), and a 250+ gb harddrive should be great.
