[nabs-l] Best practices for dealing with...

Hello Nefertiti,
There are three options, which I have employed thus far; they are as follows:
(1)	Ask the disability center at your college or University to supply a note-taker, whose primary job would be to assist in visual activities such as graph construction, fill-in-the-blank, etc. I find this to be the least effective method, though, because the person hired often is another student, who has no idea what they are doing (not because they are not intelligent enough, but because their major is often times completely opposite from mine, so they have not seen the work before, and thus do not recognize the proper procedures).
(2)	Contact the professor before the course begins, and try to get all visual material synthesized into braille, or some form of tactile representation. This usually allows me to figure out what goes where, though it is a tad bit time consuming, sometimes.
(3)	Ask the professor to provide me with electronic copies of all tables they will be using. Then, any graphic, or graph, which would not work electronically, use either steps one, or two, in order to ensure the job is entirely covered.

I am certain there are other methods, but these are the ones I have used. I look forward to hearing what everyone else has to say, regarding this topic!
Respectfully,
Michael Ausbun

Good Monday morning to all,

If you're anything like me, you have about two weeks to recoup and
regroup from finals before summer semester begins.
Along with working and training for triathlon season, I'm spending my
break reaching out to you fine students about best practices for
dealing with highly visual in-class activities like, say, completing a
Culturagram.
I realize that this topic has probably been brought up multiple times.
If there is an archive somewhere, would someone be so kind as to
point me to it?
If not, please do let me know your thoughts and what has worked for
you. My hope is that this gets a dialog going about preparedness or
techniques that you have found to be useful when faced with tasks like
graphs or "fill out the..." type of activities.

Thanks much for taking the time to read this and respond,
Nefertiti
