[nabs-l] An Apology To The List And An Important Message

Hello:

As one of those who has been vocal about whether or not messages that
promote this radio show are on the list, I appreciate the message below.
I have hoped that as NFB was and is live-streaming events now, NABS
could fall under this and have professional live streaming for their
meetings. This isn't an attack on David or the way meetings have been
streamed in the past, but simply an observation; if NFB is working with
the hotel, they can hook up to the sound system in the room that the
meeting is taking place in and provide a higher quality of streaming so
that someone doesn't have to sit back in the audience with a quality
microphone to pick up the audio from the speaker. This would help in the
quality of the stream, but also for those who are hard of hearing as
well. Similarly, hotel bandwidth and internet costs are generally
prearranged, so that would mean that this stream would have a quality
(hopefully) stable connection that could be used in this stream. This
would create a better experience for the listener, and everything would
be under the operations of the NFB stream.

Should there be a point where the board goes forward with this radio
station, I only have a few issues which I and others have pointed out.
My goal is to keep this constructive but still hopefully work out some
solutions to these individual issues. They are not in any way an attack
on this radio station.
1) The radio station has changed a lot in the past, so this results in a
lot of "last night broadcasting," "last night broadcasting tune in," and
"new station" messages that are sent out to the list. The issue here is
going to be keeping the information relevant to students without to much
clutter. For example, many people seem to differ on the opinion that
providing streams of calls means that other advertising needs to take
place simply because this is a station that streams calls. This perhaps
is why I am so strongly in favor of NABS itself creating a stream, or
working with the national office to make this happen. I understand that
as a result of David providing a stream he wants to be able to advertise
his work, and denying that to him or anyone else while still requesting
(has anyone from the board requested these streams) might be a tough
pill to swallow.
2) I don't know how much effort went into getting interviews with
everyone for the last election when there were two people running for
NABS vp, but it seems that it would help greatly, should interviews be
given to have a bipartisan stream with someone asking questions; this
would and could probably take form in simply streaming the call that
Kathryn was holding to help people get to know the candidates, rather
than bringing individual candidates into a radio show.

Thanks,
Ty
