Hi Julia:

Welcome to the NABS list! I'm so excited to hear that you want to learn more about the NFB and get involved with NABS. If you want to find a way to get involved in the student division, I would recommend contacting your state's student division president. I knew who the Michigan student division's president was while I was on the NABS Board, but I'm not sure if he still holds that office. If you go to www.nabslink.org, you can find contact information for your student division president as well as your state affiliate president, either of whom can get you connected and help you find a place to get involved.

I'm also very excited to see another fellow musician on this list! We have plenty of musicians in the Federation, some of whom have studied music in college. I'm a music minor, but my emphasis is in vocal performance, so that might not help you much as a violinist. However, Leslie Hamric, a Board member of our Performing Arts Division, is a professional cellist and violinist who studied at the Eastman School of Music in Illinois. She also teaches private lessons remotely, so she would probably be a great person for you to contact. Please email me off-list at cnusbaumnfb at gmail.com if you are interested, and I'll connect the two of you. I would also suggest checking out our Performing Arts Division and joining the Perform-talk and/or Music Talk lists, both of which can be found at nfbnet.org.

I hope these resources help you. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any further questions or if there is anything I can do to help. Again, welcome to the Federation!

I joined this list about a month ago on the recommendation of a friend/mentor, and am wondering about how I can get more information about NABS and get more involved. Besides a brief exposure several years ago, I haven't done anything NFB or NABS related, and don't know a ton about either.

I am a serious violinist and I intend to study in college, but I have a lot of questions about how best to do this as a blind individual, and would love to get in contact with someone who has already gone down this road.
