Hi!
I would explore that bus route. If possible, get an o and m expert to help you figure out if you are able to use the bus route. I would also explore other alternatives and find out if you can use any of them and which ones. I hope this helps!

Subject: [NABS-L] Situation with rehab services

Hello everyone,

I could really use some thoughts, and advice, please.

So as I think I have stated before, I live in Missouri. I live not all
that far from Saint Louis. But in the next county. I am currently
attending a local community college. The main campus is about a 30
minute drive from my house.

There is another campus just a couple of streets over from me. But, it
is just one building, and not all the classes are offered there.

Well, I am currently in my second semester. Rehab services has been
paying for my transportation costs. If I remember correctly, this
started a little way into my first semester.

Well, I have just recently been informed that they can no longer
continue to pay for my transportation, for the way it is right now. I go
two days a week. And, this is how it is supposed to be in the fall as well.

I am being told that the amount they can pay has to be equal for what
they would pay for room and board. Apparently, they are spending about
900 dollars a month on my transportation costs. They use a cab company
within Saint Louis county.

My question to my rehab counselor was, how could you all not know how
much this was going to cost?

Did the cab company not inform you of their prices?

I haven't gotten an answer from her yet, on this.

I let my advisor know what was going on. He told me that this could
definitely have some not so good ramifications for me. Which of course,
I definitely know.

I also asked my rehab counselor, that if this is such a big issue now,
what might happen once I attend a different college in a couple of years?

I really do not know what to do here. I feel like this is going to hurt
my chances of possibly moving forward with my life. I am already not
your typical student. Tomorrow, I turn 48. So, my chances of finding a
job will be much more difficult, once I finish with school. I know I am
taking a big risk here.

I love school, and what it has to offer. I don't want to give up on it,
if I don't have to do so.

There is a bus service that runs to the college. I would have to leave
my house at around 7:30 in the morning, and I would get to the campus at
about 8. I would be there an hour and a half earlier than I would need
to be.

Also, I do not know if the bus might pick me up at my house. Or, if I
might have to meet it at a different location. I haven't looked into
this, just yet.

My rehab counselor is saying that they might be able to pay for most of
my trips. Then sometimes I just might have to take the bus.

I am just frustrated, and irritated with this whole situation!

Any thoughts, or advice would be very much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri
