That was exactly what was going on.  She had had some recent upsets in her
own life, and it was showing.  She had not been like that before.  Still!

I'm sure that was the case with my ex, as well, although in his case the
upset was from my vision loss.  I was understanding for as long as I could
be; but sooner or later, I simply had to leave the problems his upset was
causing me, since I really needed to focus on the fact that I was the one
who was going blind in that scenario.  /smile/

Row, I can't imagine experiencing that sort of control! Sometimes, we have
to negotiate with people and sometimes, as you found out, we don't. I find
that people who have to control are usually those who have feelings of
inadequacy and lack of control in their own life.

I once went to the grocery store with a friend, since she offered to drive
me there and was doing some shopping of her own.  I paid her for gas and
everything.  But she took it in her head that I didn't need fabric softener
and threatened to leave me there if I insisted on buying it.  Fabric
softener!  Needless to say, I did not go shopping with her again!

Epilogue:  I left the fabric softener behind, thinking we could discuss the
issue later and it was only fabric softener, after all.  Ha!  I should have
let her go have her snit and either walked home with my cane or called a
cab, since I was temporarily living way, way out there.  Live and learn, I
guess.  /smile/

My now ex-husband had a tendency to use his status as driver to be
controlling, but I stopped putting up with it and just found my own way home
a time or two.  /grin/  Then I quit putting up with him.  /grin/

I agree.  I think no blind person should EVER be without a cane or dog while

out - even with a human sighted guide.  What if your human companion got 
pissed at you for something and just left you stranded sans a mobility aid 
(grin!).

Morris Frank, Seeing Eye founder, found himself in this situation and he 
would have given his eye teeth for a modern white cane and the training in 
using it!
