If you're concerned about him getting hungry, another option would be to 
give him about a quarter cup of his breakfast around noon, just to be sure 
he's got something in his stomach.  This would not add any calories to his 
diet, but would provide him with that bit to tide him over that you're 
considering.  This is how I tend to do it.
