[nagdu] pupp sitters

Jenine,

Well said! I'm coming in late, and find so moany others saying what I'm
thinking, only better. /smile/

I think for any of us, sharing what we want to of the reasoning behind our
decisions is always helpful to others. I don't have to decide this year,
but there's always next year... So I listen and consider because I still
don't know which way I will decide with my dog when it comes down to it. I
want her there, and do my imaginary (for now) convention planning with her
guiding me, but... We'll see when it's real. It's up to me to make the
best choice for my dog and then myself.

Whichever way I decide, I just sort of plan on having ten people or more
contest and judge whichever decision I make for whatever reasons. Seems to
come with being blind. Sigh. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised to be
waiting for a street light sometime in the next couple of weeks and have
some total stranger I didn't know was standing there start lecturing me
about what I should do about convention and whether I should take my dog and
then get all snarly and mad because I'm just stnading there with my mouth
hanging open instead of getting right on doing whatever it is they're
telling me to do. /lol/ There's a downside to living in an overly friendly
and polite city. Need career advice? Strangers on street corners *will*
give it to you! (Goodwill has jobs for people like me!). Want to know
whether we people are allowed to cook by ourselves? Wait at a stop light!
You'll find out. /lol/

Oh, well. I need to catch up on reading. I am always glad when people are
willing to share their decisions and the reasons behind them. I try to do
the same, in case it gives somebody else some insight. But over the past
few years, I will admit that I do so while looking around shiftily for the
first hint that somebody is about to leap out of the shadows and give me
grief!

Then again, some of the grief is so ridiculous, it gives me quite a bit to
laugh at. Whew!

Marsha,

I too have to chime in to support your decision and admire you for making
it. Sometimes it's just easier not to take the dog to some places, long or
short term. An experienced dog will remember its job and with some patience
when you get back, the dog will go right back to its routine.

I think I'd rather see people make the decision to leave a dog than to be
totally stressed, and hence have a totally stressed dog, at conventions or
other events. In the end though it's a very personal choice. Asking what
motivates some people to make it though can help others to do the same at
other times.

Emma is an experienced guide, has traveled with me to several conventions,
Washington seminars, and other events. But the convention is stressful on
me, much less Emma. I frankly do not wish to subject her to that sort of
stress, if need be. It is not that she can't handle the stress, but I choose
for her not too. The puppy sitter I will be leaving her at, has other pups,
who were to be guides but because of health reasons can't. Emma will have a
great time, and be able to relax and have fun playing.

Sorry if anyone thinks that is strange or horrible of me. But this is my
choice, and my guide.

Hello listers,

In a little over a week, my guide will be staying with a pup sitter while I
attend the national convention. The pup sitter is a former sitter for the
school I received my pup from. She will be watching Emma for 10 days. So
here is my question, What is the going rate for kenneling a pup? Or for pup
sitters? I have explained to her that I am by no means rich, but would like
to pay her something. Kenneling is very expensive, so I know it has to be
way under that. Any ideas please let me know. If you feel more comfortable
emailing me off list, please do at marsha.drenth at gmail.com

Thank you,

marsha
