The length of the handle depends on many criterian:

1.  How tall are you
2.  How tall is your dog
3.  How long is your dog
4.  what is the most comfortable working position for both you and your dog

5.  Other things I'm not thinking of, I'm sure.

For example, with my current dog, I use a short handle, I believe this is a 
14 inch handle.  If I were taller, I would need a longer handle, if she were 
taller, I would need a shorter handle.

I hope that makes sense.
