I think people just use the term "guide dog" to mean any dog individually
trained to assist a person with a disability. I think they understand that
not all disabled people with assistance dogs are blind, but lack the
knowledge to use the correct terms.
I did see the bit about the search and rescue dog being added as a second
dog in the family. I just don't know what to think. My first thought was
that the family is looking to dogs to solve problems that might be better
solved through other means.
