[nagdu] reasons to go to the vet

I thought it might be helpful to some to write down when I will take the
dog to the vet, besides the annual check-up. My husband is quite the
worrier, so we have taken the dog to the vet when we didn't need to. And,
when I was young and stupid there were times I should have taken the dog
to the vet, but did not. But I got lucky, and she survived. Oh the
things those first dogs have to put up with.

Reasons to take the dog to the vet:
Bleeding (of course).
Persistent vomitting, more than a couple times to bring up some bile or
something disagreeable.
Obvious distress, like whining, pacing, hiding, unexplained panting,
drooling... A friend's dog got bloat. She found out in time because the
dog was pacing and whining, and got her to the vet in time to save her
life.
I took Ben to the vet once because he was hiding in a corner and all
tucked in on himself, instead of lying in his usual spot. Turns out a
stick had scratched his mouth or throat, although the vet did not figure
that out.

Persistent lethargy.
Swelling. Echo is allergic to some kind of insect bite, maybe spiders.
If one gets her, her whole face swells up. Luckily it doesn't happen very
often, and now I know what it is I don't panic, but I have taken her to
the vet for it.

If there's stuff I've forgotten, feel free to add.
Hope this is helpful to someone sometime.
Tracy
