Back on June 16, 2011 when I had to be rushed off by ambulance to denver
Health Medical's emergency room, Dale didn't have time to grab Odie's
medical alert vest.
The captain of our Fire Department up the street from us and the Commanding
officer of the Paramedic Division just told my husband to slip on a leash
and collar that have Odie's identification tags on him.
Nobody at Denver Health had a problem with Odie being there as they already
knew who he was in general.
When I had the Emergency Room staff contact Logistic Care to get me a cab,
the driver didn't have a problem with Odie being in there either.
This is something that doesn't plan on happening on a continuous basis.
That only happened because of the convulsive grandmal seizure that was
occuring and the fire department and paramedics wanted to get me to the
hospital ASAP and quickly.
Not only we didn't have time to grab Odie's medical alert service dog vest,
there wasn't any time for me to slip on my shoes either.
At some point when I can, I'm going to have a metal tag created for Odie
which will even state that he's a medical alert service dog if another
situation like the one I just mentioned were to happen again.
I can have Petco, Petsmart or Dog Savvy create one for me and it will have
"medical alert dog" on the tag directly.
I've found that once I've told a cab company that I have a guide dog or
medical alert dog with me, there won't be so much pressure or stress.
I figure in resect, we all do things differently and that's why each of us
are unique for who we are.
