[nagdu] If you don't like the policies

Bertha,
I, too, have seen some behaviors from some people in NFB that reminds me of 
"cult behavior".  You know, the not questioning of policies, etc.  I am 
angry at the homophobia that I see as well.  I've been made to feel 
invisable as an LGBT and that is just as much a part of my identity as my 
being blind.  But, all organizations are made up of people and there are all 
kinds of people in the organizations.  I see this in all kinds of groups 
I've belonged to in my lifetime! (grin!)  There are things I disagree with, 
people I disagree with and that's OK.  I just want people to be respectful 
of one another and that we can sometimes agree to disagree with one another.

The NFB has done alot of good over the years to greatly improve the lives of 
the blind of this country and beyond.  As for me, I am not currently an 
active NFB member and I'm sort of active in ACB here.  there's no real local 
NFB and the ACB chapter here is mostly recreational.  I do my "blindness 
work" within the community at large and in my LGBT community.  So much 
education is one on one and I seem to fit in best doing this.  But the 
organized blind has a very important role in all of this as well.

So, don't let the disagreeable people put you off from the NFB or any other 
group.  Do what feels good for you to do in your life.  If you decide just 
educating people while you do the things you enjoy works for you, go for 
it - it's all important.
