[nagdu] FW: Article: Council approves service animals ordinance

Lisa,
I do understand that INDIVIDUALS in groups like Tea Party or the Republican
party can be honest, decent folks who can be tolerant of groups of people
they don't understand - like Muslims, or LGBT people. When I said "like the
Tea Party", I talk about the group-think, not individual people - the
group's politcal platforms.

This is hard for me to do sometimes because, as an LGBT person, these
groups' policies actually cause violence and death to LGBT people and that
hits real close to home with me. I do try to treat each person as they are
and most are good folks.

Back in 2008, I was sitting in The Concourse at SD City Hall having lunch
before attending a City Council meeting when a group of pro Prop 8 folks
came along. I didn't interact with them. One of the women with their group
came over to me as she noticed Landon. We both had our respective Prop 8
buttons on but she shared with me about her blind mother who went to the
Center for the Blind. We talked about that - not our feelings on same sex
marriage. We made a personal connection and talked about her mother,
blindness, and she and I parted amiacally. She did enjoy Landon and he was
his goofy self. LOL!

I do realize that it isn't good to paint everyone with the same brush of
people who behave badly. WE all know what it is like to get it because
someone's guide dog behaved badly, or the person was just a jerk.

Lyn and Landon
