What kind of dog is Monty again, a lab??  Well if he's a lab or any dog with 
lab tendencies ... your right opening the fridge probably wouldn't be a good 
idea!!  I have a couple little terriers and if they could get the fridge 
open ... oh boy!!

LOL I think teaching Monty to open the refrigerator would be a large
mistake.  He's pretty good at not taking what isn't his, but I can just
picture him opening the refrigerator and standing in front of it for
hours, sniffing and drooling!

I know people with mobility service dogs who do teach this task, so
there must be dogs that can handle it.  Not Monty though! *smile*
