Robert,

Teaching a hand target has been incredibly useful to me too. It was one
of the very first things I taught Monty when he was still a puppy. I
use two fingers extended in a pointing gesture though. I'm so excited
to hear you talk about back chaining and clicker! You know dog
training. I'll have to pick your brain for ideas! *smile*

It's a fun obedience/training exercise, and it has its practical applications as well. For example, when I want him to go under a chair in a certain way, rather than grab him and manipulate him like a back pack, I can show him my fist and tell him to "touch". He then moves under the chair to nose my fist, thus positioning himself for me. I sped up the process with a clicker, and think it would be a great way to teach him off-leash recall, something TSE didn't do. I just need to back chain him further. :)

I told her to fetch and she came up with the keys; then I pointed in the general direction of the stylus again and she fetched it. Once I was in a restroom at a grocery store and the TP wasn't affixed to the roll. It flew off and across the bathroom. I told her to fetch and she brought the roll of TP back to me. It's true! One time she grabbed a cookie off a tray at the VA Hospital; when I told her out, she gave it to me--dropped it right into my hand. Then do you praise or scold? LOL.
