[nagdu] Guide Dogs as "chick magnets"

Hi Mark and everyone.

In my experience, it does not seem to work both ways. I have heard
that the dog attracts women, and honestly that makes sense to me, but
I have not found that it works the other way.

This is a delemma I've had as well. People don't want to talk to me,
they want to talk to my dog. It's hard to deal with without being
considered very rude. I've tried to just talk at them anyway. Like,
just start asking them questions if they begin talking to your dog and
not you. This especially works if you don't know the person.

Petting in harness... I don't allow it either, and I have had very
good fortune where that is concerned. What to do... You should not
hesitate to let them know that petting a working dog is wrong if they
have not been given permission. If they do not stop, you might be
forced to remove their hands from your dog and walk away. Sometimes
people just don't listen.

I pretty much ignored people who are afraid of my dog. If it is
causing a major disturbance, then work your dog like you normally
would and do not draw more attention to yourself. For the most part,
once that person sees that your dog is not going to bother him/her,
the fear will go away or be lessened.

I live on a college campus myself, so these are things I also have to
deal with. Hope this helps.
