I was born in the 1970's and that stuff wasn't around then either. I was not taught Braille in school even though my reading ability was hampered by eye strain and needing a very large CCTV which was only available in one classroom.

I taught myself Braille in 1999 and though it's a little slower than normal, I'm glad I did it.

As for a cane in the snow, I've never done that as I have always had a dog since I moved to the north.

I probably won't be at the point of my normal pace for another 4-6 months, so I am not sure how to handle a cane in the snow.

any suggestions would be appreciated. I know this a dog list, but for those of us that are between dogs, it would be a good thing to know.

As for me as a child born iin 19554 much that we take for granted and use wasn't even thought of yet When the first reading machines came out they were very large and very expensive and I was on my own getting through college and I didn't have a dog yet so managed in the snow with my cane and feel very blessed to know how to use one as well as the joy of using a wonderful little golden retreiver name Tres. I'm truly blessed.
