I can only tell you what I'd do.  But, it might not work for you!  I'd 
probably give her back what she gave.  I'd talk about her like she talks 
about your dog!  I have to really enforce with my mother-in-law about when 
Holly works or not.  I corrected her in church once and she told me never to 
do that again!  I had to tell her that she needs to pay attention!  Later, I 
explained that what she was doing I could not afford to let her do it in the 
middle of the street or elsewhere!  I try to be educational as often as 
possible but folks who are like your step Mom sometimes wear on me and I 
start talking to them the way they're talking to my dog!  Although I do 
wonder what Holly thinks down under that table, I know that if we allowed 
them to participate, we would certainly have a dog with issues on our hands!
