Oh, that makes more sense then if all people boarding with animals are going to get swaved for explosives no matter what.

My understanding is that the suggested procedure is for the service dog handler to put the dog in a sit-stay, hold the leash, pass through the screening machine, and call the dog. It is also my understanding that the clip at the end of the leash does not contain enough metal to set off the screening machine, but the metal in the harness handle does. Therefore, should the dog set off the alarm, the dog will be patted down. If one drops the leash and, when reaching to retrieve the leash after the dog has passed through screening and set off the alarm, the handler touches the dog, both the dog and handler are patted down.
