marilyn,

that is very interesting. I have never had any issues on USAir, but have on other airlines. My husband I fly almost 4 to 6 times a year, perhaps more, using USAirs, and have no issues at all. I would like to think that your complaint has improved how they handle persons with guide dogs.

thank you for sharing,

> Years ago I use to fly US Air every few month to VA to visit a friend just with my guide dog, Never had a problem. This one time my husband decided to join me. I always changed planes at the DC airport. This people on the plane that was suppose to leave a few hours before my plane to the same destination had plane problems so they were on my plane. When we board someone was in my seat (bulk head ) I explained and the man was rude and said it was his seat from the plane. The stewardess asked what the problem was and I explained. She said I could sit in another seat and my husband could sit in a different one. She sat me by the emergency exit door. then she came back and said I have to move because blind people can't sit by the emergency exit. I argued with her. then she said people are getting mad at me because the plane can't take off until I move. She then got on the loud speaker and said would anyone want to change seats with this blind woman and her dog. I was appalled! My husband said a few choice words to her and he was going to change seats when a man next to me said he would change seats. the plane was dead silence. Now i am sitting next to a very large man who was taking up part of me seat and he said he couldn't move over anymore. My dog was sticking out a little as she couldn't move anywhere. the stewardess came over and said the plane can't take off with the dogs tail and a little of the back sticking out in the isle. I explained the dog couldn't move anymore and she would see for herself. She started to push my dog with her foot to get her the small part of her back sticking out in move. I told her if she ever touches my dog to push it again with her foot I would call the police when we land. She finally left and we took off. the man next to me felt bad.

Finally a man stopped the line of people and said let this lady and her guide dog get off the plane. My husband was blocked by the crowd so he could help me. I finally got off . We put a formal complaint in to US air. I got an apology letter and two 50 dollar vouchers the next time I flew. I have flown US air for many years and never had a problem . I have flown Southwest as a direct flight out to JFK with no problems. US Air also flies puppy's for GDF to other states and they are very good. I have met the staff that transports them.
