[nagdu] Grooming questions.

HI Deanna,

My husband's retiring dog, who is about to go back to GDf with him to be
placed in a retirement home, really isn't much for grooming. He's gotten
better over these 7.5 years, but he generally doesn't like it. The only time
he really likes grooming is when we use the Zoom Groom brush, the rubber one
with the cones, or a brush I bought a couple years ago called the Deshedding
Tool. It looks like a FURminator but has batteries and vibrates slightly.

This brush is also a favorite of my one cat. She adores being groomed
anyway, and though not a long haired cat, she has a thick dense coat. This
brush is available on line at several places, just look for deshedding tool.
It takes 1 double A battery and that battery lasts around a year or so with
daily brushing.

We bathe the guys here at home most of the time though once in a while they
will get a professional bath. Honestly, I bathe my dogs maybe 2 to 4 times a
year in this climate but when I lived in Orlando, I bathed my dog every 10
to 15 days, just to keep the pale and other things off her skin.

We bathe the guys outside with a hose. They hate the hose but it's certainly
efficient.

When I had my Labradoodle, I had to take her to the groomer for trims. She
adored the groomer, no matter who it was. This happened every six weeks or
so.

Hi all,

Do any of you have dogs that do not like to be brushed/groomed?

My dog, Pascal has always disliked being brushed. Every time I get my
grooming kit out, he runs and tries to hide.

He will tolerate being brushed, but gives me dirty looks and acts like I am
torturing him. I don't think it hurts him, as I use a softer than normal
slicker brush, and occasionally a Furminator. I also don't use a strong
pressure when I run the brush through. He doesn't act like it hurts, or
wince in pain (which is always good, LOL) As soon as I am done he turns
back into his normal happy self. I give him praise when he behaves well, and
if he is really good, he gets a kibble afterwards as a treat.

Any thoughts or suggestions on making grooming more enjoyable for him?

I also have a question about bathing and professional grooming.

Do you all bathe your dogs at home? If so, how often?

Do you take your dog to get professionally groomed? How often?

Thank you!

Deanna and Pascal
