Yes, a paw wax like Mushers Secret can help to protect the pads from 
burning.  I use a home made version.  It's just olive oil, beeswax and some 
essential oils.  It has to be applied repeatedly, but it's way easier than 
the boots.

I think I'd use the aloe if the dog's paws did get slightly burnt, like a 
sunburn.  anything more serious than a slight burn and I think I'd go to the 
vet.
