Viggo is the same with balls.   how about playing ball with him at home 
before you go to practice and kind of try to get him tired out.  Shep will 
probably still wine but may be not as much or at least you will not feel so 
bad about it knowing that he has had his turn and probably will get more 
later.  If you do bring him to convention do not forget to find time to play 
with him!
