[nagdu] Dogs with food obsessions

Dear Deanna,
Would it be difficult for a dog, who hasn't worn one, to get used to the head collar; food diving is another pet peeve of mine precisely because it adds calories and can be downright dangerous.

Hi Bobette,
I changed the subject line for your last post. I'm not sure what you are asking, so do not know the best way to answer.
Do you mean the dog is obsessed with people food? Does the dog lunge under restaurant tables and constantly beg? I think this is what you mean, so I will try to give you some tips.
Have you tried a gentle leader or another head collar? The dogs tend to not be so sniffy with one on. And you can control their head and notice quickly if they are reaching towards food.
This is a problem I have dealt with in the past, so I feel your pain. In fact, sometimes my dog will dive for food before I can catch him. I am interested to hear other people's suggestions.
Just be firm and hopefully it will get better.
Deanna and Pascal

Lexia gets a bath about every six to eight weeks. She needs it because she starts to smell; otherwise, I probably would not do it that often. How often you bathe your dog depends on a million factors, and there is no right time period between baths, as long as your dog does not smell. About every other time, someone is available to help me take Lexia to a do it yourself groomer, so it is cheaper those times. When someone is not available, I have a mobile groomer come, which runs about $100 give or take after the tip.
Yes, it is a lot, but, for me, it is worth not having to clean up the dog hair if I bathed Lexia in my own shower. The mobile groomer also files Lexia's nails and puts ear cleaner in her ears

My costs are nothing atll. One thing I'd like to know is how you avoid the bath? I have a black lab but i have to bath her every 3 months or so, as she smells.
