[nagdu] Guide dogs and teacher observations

Hello. I work with high school students. At the beginning of the year, I go over all the do's and don'ts. There are some who like Zeb and others who are afraid. After a while of being in class the students get used to Zeb and they are not afraid of him eventually. He usually lays under my desk or a table so that he sleeps when I'm teaching. He stays there. The students are curious about him in the beginning but after awhile they sometimes wonder where he is as he's so quiet. If your dog doesn't stay, I'd recommend a portable crate or a tie-down. If the room is small like mine a portable crate might be difficult to use as one moves about the room. There have been two students that I know that were afraid of him when they were younger but as they saw us more and knew that it was going to be OK they were OK with him too. If I had a student who was allergic, I'd have to consider a portable crate though.

Maybe a dumb question, but if you're a special ed major,
don't they teach you how to deal with a child that is frightened or well has
other special needs?
My suggestion is to get a portable crate, set it up and put the dog in
there.

Subject: [nagdu] Guide dogs and teacher observations

Hi all: I am an education major and I have some questions about having a
guide dog when doing teacher observations. For all you teachers out there
how did you do it with a dog? Also, I will be in Special education
classrooms. How do I handle that situation? What if a child is alergic to
dogs? Or frightened? I know when I get my own classroom it will be easier
because my pup can just lay under my desk op behind it but that's a long way
away. Any advice on what works and what doesn't and how school staff
accommoadte would be helpful.
