Hey guys,
One way to start trying figure out the dog food thing is talk to a holistic veterinarian.  they can hopefully give you guidance on where to find good information, and they have a lot of information themselves.
I think more and more dog trainers are learning about nutrition as well.
Look in your area for the little pet hood stores.  Many of them have raw food diets and dehydrated diets.
Remember, you really don't have to feed them all of one kind, mix it up and the dog will be healthy and you will not break the bank.

One of the biggest reason dog trainers tell you not to feed "people food" to your dog, is to not have them beg at the table, plus many people cook using a lot of spices and sauces.   Meat, veggies, potatoes, fruit, and a little bread and cheese isn't bad for the dog.  People who farmed will into the 70's just fed the dogs what they eat.    Now if you eat a lot of pizza, chips, pop, candy, boxed foods, and fast food, these are not good for dogs. these are people foods.

there is so much stuff coming out about what to feed our pets that it is hard to know.  But just use your common sense and listen to what is being said.  Plus I think has someone who has cats and dogs, it is my job to pay attention to what is going on in the pet world.   I don't think there is one perfect food, but there are a lot of not so good foods out there.

Hey, Raven; I'm not sure I'm convinced to feed raw, but I'd rather put the
money in my dog than in the vet's  pocket.

Hi Darla,
So most grocery store meats are treated with some cleansing liquid.
Just rinse it off thoroughly before feeding it.
Also, there are a number of cheap ways to get meat--from processors,
abattoirs, taxidermists, friends who hunt and farm, CraigsList and
Freecycle. Rawfeeding carnivores is only as expensive as you make it.
Also, whatever raw-feeding costs will far out way expenses in vet bills
treating disease caused by an improper diet.
