[nagdu] Retiring a dog early

Faye tents to look all around wherever we go, searching for food or trash. If she locates some, she will beer off course just to sniff it. I think the command I use is out. Just in one short walk, she went for trash four times, veered off for the dumpster and got caught up in that, and picked up an apple as we crossed the street. All this in a five minute walk to record her behavior for the school. If I correct her before she veers off course, she sometimes lunges. It got to where I stayed at home rather than deal with her behavior every step. The high collar helps, but only a little. The gentle leader doesn't work. I hope I have given a good description of why she is going back.

We decided together it would be best to return Faye to the school and start the intake for a new dog. I put so much love and time into this relationship over the past eight months I have had her, I am having trouble dealing with this. Is there any advice on how to enjoy the last of the time I have with her and how to let go when I must? I am also afraid of not being able to put as much love into my next guide dog relationship. Did you find it easy to fall in love with a successor dog?
