A blind woman was reunited with her guide dog this morning and police have
identified the suspect who stole it more than a week ago.

A 21-year-old Dayton woman is accused of stealing a guide dog from a blind
woman, then selling the animal on Craigslist.

Bonnie Ritchie was indicted today by a Montgomery County grand jury on one
count of theft from an elderly or disabled person, a fifth-degree felony,
Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. announced.

Ritchie allegedly took the dog, a purebred Rottweiler named Diamond, on Feb.
17 from the backyard of a North Irwin Street home. Three days later, Ritchie
sold the dog, which she advertised for sale on Craigslist, an online
classified advertisements website. The buyer called police Feb. 25 after he
saw a news story about the theft, according to the prosecutor's office.

"This defendant stole from someone with challenges. This dog was the owner's
helper dog as well as the family pet," Heck stated in a news release. "I
would encourage all pet owners to not only license their pets, but in
addition, have them microchipped, which will ensure identification if they
become lost or stolen."

Ritchie is scheduled to be arraigned July 31.
