Hi Greg!
My name is Amber, and I am fairly new to the list myself. I am not currently working a guy dog, but I have worked a male black lab in the past. Glad you joined us!

Now to answer your question: as I said, I do not currently work a guy dog, but I can answer the question of contacting a Uber driver. Once your ride has been picked up by someone, there is a button that says trip actions. If you activate this button, you are given an option to contact the driver. When you activate that button, you were given a choice of calling or messaging the driver. When you message them, you can put whatever you like. It is something that pops up in iMessage if using an iPhone, or whatever it looks like on android.

Whether or not you should tell, that's a personal choice, and one I won't even begin to try to make for you. Everyone is going to have a suggestion, but ultimately, you have to do what makes you most comfortable.
I hope this helps, and I look forward to getting to know more about you! You're free to write me off list, if I can answer anymore Uber questions.
Best,
Amber

I am currently working with my second guide, a golden retriever named Nikon from the Seeing Eye. I look forward to connecting with other guide dog users and learning from the community.

I have run into enough friction in my area from uneducated cab drivers that I generally try to notify the cab dispatch that I have a service animal when I request a ride so that I don’t have to argue with cab drivers when they arrive. Is there a way to notify the Uber driver ahead of time that I have a service animal? Do others on this list recommend disclosing that I have a dog ahead of time or not? I am open to feedback.
