[nagdu] Noise at the corner

Tracy,

I've always been like that. I also have difficulty judging distance of
cars. there are some streets I have to cross where there is no light and
not a ton of traffic. I find myself standing there for what seems like
forever because I can hear cars, but I can't tell how far away they are to
know if I have enough time to cross. when I'm with my teen age son, I'll be
waiting and he'll tell me that car is over a block away, I think you can
make it.

I do exactly as you do, wait. If I can I'll go around by crossing the
street or taking a different route, but that isn't always possible or
practical.

Julie

Subject: [nagdu] Noise at the corner

I am having more trouble these days hearing traffic when there are loud
noises around, like an idling truck, a food truck generator, or a bus
zooming off down the street. I don't know if it's my hearing, or just
that cars are quieter, but there are times I have to wait out a light
change because I just can't tell what's happening. And, if the noise
isn't going away, I have to take my best guess or wait until someone
happens along who hears me asking for help. If there was a Miracle Ear
that damped down loud noises and amped up quiet ones, I'd get it.
Surely I can't be the only person with this problem. What do other people
do?
Tracy
