Welcome!

I do presentations to groups. It depends on the particular situation and
room arrangement as to how I handle the dog. If I'm just strictly speaking,
I work the dog to the podium or table or whatever, settle him at my feet.
He's good about staying put. Usually he prefers to lean against my foot
anyway, so I can tell he's there. I loop the leash over my arm, mostly for
ease in moving away from the podium when I'm done. My dog will stay
regardless of the leash situation, it just makes for easier location when
I'm ready to move.

I do teach a class where I move around the room a lot, interacting with the
students and conducting group activities. My dog prefers to be under
something but where he can still see me. Fortunately, I get to set up the
room anyway I want. there's a table in front and to the side where he'll
lay. Sometimes I put one of my bags so that it blocks off one side of the
table, so it feels more like a den or his crate. He stays put unless I call
him to me.

some people use a mat or small blanket as the dog's "place". So you teach
the dog that wherever the mat is, is where he should be laying quietly.
Sort of the same concept as a tie down or crate.

Oh, and in my office at work he stays on his rug under my desk, even if I
get up and move around the office.

Mostly he's good about staying, but every now and then he will get up just
to remind me that he can. Well, he will get up to reposition himself to
something more comfortable if it's a long meeting/presentation. I allow and
encourage this behavior and don't count that as getting up.

Julie

Hi, my name is Elisabeth and I am on the waiting list of two
Guidedog providers. I'm mostly excited about getting a guidedog
but have a few questions. As far as toileting goes, is there
some sort of harness that can help you toilet your dog and clean
up easily?

Also, when travelling with a guidedog, if you are at a workshop
where you have to get up in front of an audience, how can you
keep your dog from following you around the room if you have to
make a presentation or something similar?

If any of you could answer my questions, that would be great as
I'm really interested in your experiences and how you have
combated these issues.
