Seems that our favourite rich western province of Alberta is
rolling on in the usual red neck fashion. What is the point of the
government registration if all laws still apply, regardless of
possession of some ill-considered nonsensical card? We have no such
requirements in Manitoba plus, as far as I can tell from some reading,
and from other list comments, we have the most progressive legislation
in North America. Perhaps someone on the list has reviewed our
legislation which I have forwarded to the list in the past few months.

So as an example, I am Deafblind, my service dog is trained to guide me around objects in my path, and to do other tasks to mitigate my blindness. She is trained to alert me to sounds in my environment which mitigates my deafness. It doesn't matter who trained her— I did— but it's not required that she come from a program.

>> Daryl,
>> several things are not in line with the ADA— which is the federal civil rights legislation in the u.s
>> Firstly, the ADA does not require that the dog be trained by a recognnized program. The Ada requires that the dog be individually trained to do work or perform tasks to mitigate a disability. This means the dog could be trained by a program, a private trainer, or the owner.
>> Secondly the state law gives very specific requirement about the gear a service dog must wear. This is also not in line with the ADA.
