[nagdu] when dogs are working?

Hi Abby,
I wanted to respond to your email privately but there was no email for
address listed for you. For your question, no the guy at the school was
wrong. A harness or vest does not make a service dog a service dog. The
TRAINING IS WHAT MAKES THE DOG A SERVICE DOG. If the problem is the dog
being loose and running around, they can ask you to not do that. Is the
door to the room shut when people play with your dog? Maybe let folks
interact with your dog quietly withouot play that causes running around. It
can be possible that a person who doesn't care for or is afraid of dogs
might come into the room.

Back when I was in college, my roommate had a guide dog. We limited play
with the dog to our dorm room or friends' dorm rooms but never in common
areas.

Email me privately about that Rainbow club! My email is at the bottom after
my signature.

Oh, I am still waiting for a match. None for Oct TSE class but hoping for
December one. I talked to the training supervisor and found out what the
sticking points were and was able to adjust what I wanted in a dog. TSE is
putting out smaller dogs than I'm used to but that's OK. My "must haves"
are a good pull, pace, and soundness for heavy city work.

Subject: [nagdu] when dogs are working?

hey all!

So I recently started hanging out with a group of students called the
rainbow alliance on campus.
Being a student organization, we have a room in the student union which is
considered a “safe space” where we can relax and be ourselves.
h=The alliance has made it clear to me that if I am on break, then,
obviously by decision but my dog should get some down time too. I agree
completely. my dog is easy to control off leash and harness. They are
completely comfortable with me taking my dog out of harness and all of the
people who hang out in the room love dogs. There are at least 3 other people
with service dogs who frequent that room, so it is nothing new to have a pup
running around greeting people.

Today, we had an advisor come in the room and tell us that our dogs are not
considered service animals if they are not in their full working gear.
My question is what should I do about this situation?
Should I fill out an incident report and have this advisor informed about
the laws and regulations about service dogs, or is he correct?

Thanks,

Abby and Puppy Jada
