Hello! Our dogs are allowed to go with us wherever the general
public is invited to be, meaning restaurants, hotels, stores,
banks, any business, school, doctors, dentists, wherever. There
are some places where dogs cannot go-if you get arrested and are
in jail, there is no provision for guide or service dogs to be.
Strictly speaking, churches don't have to allow dogs, since they
got themselves exempted from the ADA (Americans with Disabilities
Act). However, I have never had a problem with having my dogs
with me in church. In fact my dog's puppy raisers took her to
Mass with them, so it works great, since I'm Catholic as well.
(Interesting coincidence).
When going places with friends and family there are times when it
becomes a little awkward. My family is pretty good about making
sure there's space in someone's car for me and my dog, but there
are times when they have asked me if my dog could stay home.
There are also times when I choose to leave my dog home,
depending on the situation. My dogs usually lie on the floor of
cars, but if there is not room, then on the seat, but it's so
rare for my dogs to have ridden on seats that I can almost count
the number of times. I hope this answers all your questions.
Take care. Peace, Debby and Neena the Golden P.S. Good
luck on your Introduction to Guide Dogs. Is that like your
class, or just a visit to a school or from a school to you?
