[nagdu] "what's his name?"

While I generally will give my dog's name, mostly because, as others have said, it's either too much of a PITA to come up with a fake one, or I just can't be bothered, or it's a good exercise to keep my dog responsive to me and not others, all of that. ... Occasionally, I get annoyed and will tell someone my dog's name is Tralfaz. To date, I don't believe anyone has gotten the reference.

Mostly I think people ask because they are trying to start a conversation and asking the dog's name is what pops in their head. I don't think they really care much about what the dog's name actually is.

When I teach at the after school programs, the kids want to know names because they seem to like to ask questions about my specific dog and the specific name helps them communicate better. They will say my dog's names and the dog will look, but that's it. I've never had a kid call or attempt to get my dog to do some unauthorized thing.
>>
>> There are a couple of people who know my dogs names and have used them inappropriately, but I'm not exactly sure how I would not tell my husband my dog's name. I put these issues in the category of we need to have a chat, not an issue with giving out the name.
