I cannot fly directly from Tampa to many places we need to go. I have
found Delta's disability desk to be incredibly pleasant and helpful in
scheduling flights so that we have enough time to exit the Atlanta
airport to use the relieving areas. They have even bumped passengers
with existing reservations to new seats if the seats I, or they, feel we
need are taken. They also waive the assisted reservation service fee.

Before I retired, I sometimes flew as much as 80,000 miles a year, back
when attendants would try to take your cane to 'keep the cabin safe for
other passengers'. Weight could be an issue in small commuter jets. I
have been on these smaller airplanes in the past where obese passengers
were asked to relocate before departure. The question is also an easy
way for trained personnel to be able to suggest a location on the
airplane that would be most suitable for the size of your dog,
especially if it is in the 70 to 80 lb. range.

I have no problem asserting my rights, but when I find an airline tries
hard to accommodate my needs as Delta does, I'll take an extra step to
help them do it.
