Our routine is similar. I long leash Chase and have him sit/stay at the
edge of the magnetometer. I go through, then call him to me. I assure
the TSA person Chase won't bite. He gets a pat down. They swab my hands
because of the dog.

I'm pretty much at the point where I tell them what I'm going to do. I
have a pdf of the TSA service dog guidelines in my phone just in case.
But so far, I haven't had to use it. I try to smile and be very
pleasant. But I learned my lesson once when I agreed to take off Chase's
leach and harness and he wandered off to find my wife about forty feet
away. Now, it all stays on, as it says in the TSA guidelines.
