[NAGDU] Tips please

Hi, Ages ago, while training in 2000 with LD Sequoia, my first Leader Dog my trainer taught me how to do a "Harness Correction". It is usually coupled with a firm "Steady". The harness correction is basically a quick pump of the handle forward then back without continued backwards pressure on the handle, not a vertical up and down pump as I've seen described here on the list.I still use it, but when I returned in 2003 to train with LD Patriot,  I was informed by our trainer that Leader Dog no longer used , nor taught the harness correction to students. I continue using it because it works and it is a handy adjunct correction to leash corrections and draws less attention to the team than a leash correction does.As always...Your Mileage May Vary. ..
Yours, Very Sincerely And Respectfully,

Wayne M. Scace

Yes Viviana described it correctly "pumping" as pressure-release. It's
just moving the harness handle up and down while working to get the
dogs attention. Thanks for clarifying Pilot's word choice as well
Vivana. Dar, chuckle chuckle. I liked what you said, "When the tricks
of the trade that we have been taught don't work, we trade tricks"! So
true. That is what we are hear for on these lists. Sandra, thanks for
what you said as well about others showing compassion for those of us
with diminished strength and stamina. I now fit into that category and
it is nice to know there are tools and support out there to help us
still be able to work a dog.
