[nagdu] Speeding up

Craig,
Are you sure that Chase and jenny aren't related?

You have described Jenny's speediness to a tee! Henny, our BC/Alberta Guide Dogs trainer, advised that I talk to her a lot, too; she just generally responds when I talk to her, and it also helps redirect her when she's about to get sniffy or scroungy.

Can't remember who, but someone mentioned a trainer advising NOT to talk to the dog. I guess with some dogs, this is good advice, but Jenny girl responds so well to verbal praise or correction.

Do you find that Chase speeds up or slows down when he has to relieve? Jenny is little miss speedy!

Daryl

Chase normally goes abnormally fast, which is what I like\. But sometimes he
slows say down.

I talk to him constantly. We have a running monologue of "Good boy" and
"Nice work. Pluse "Attaboy" and "Good dog." Thtt's what my instructor at GDB
told me to do. When he slows down, he seems to respond to increased
excitement in my voice. and picks up speed again.

More often, though, I have to slow him down a bit, especially in crowds. He
likes to slalom me along packed sidewalks, coming perilously close to
unsuspecting pedestrians going our direction and playing chicken with those
going the other direction..

Craig and Chase
