Hi.
i have trained all of my dogs to shake off their hairs on command.
i start by giving a command when i take off the harness or, right after the dog gets up. these are prime shake hairs opportunities.
if the dog does not shake then, i take my hands and fluff up their fur a lot and try again.
this works great.
i don’t let my dog shake in a restaurant, for example, i make her wait until we are either at the door or outside. and, i have her shake off if she is wet as well.
i just stand there until she does it.
so, say, i get home from the light rail station and, we just walked in the snow. i take off the harness and say, shake hairs, if she doesn’t shake off then, i wait and say, shake hairs, again. if she still doesn’t do it then i mess up her fur and say it a third time. she shakes to fix her hairdo.
