[nagdu] moving to a new city: suggestions?

I too have never gone out with a cane first, except that when I 
moved to my neighborhood this time, I was between dogs, so did 
some cane work before Neena came home.  I think it helped, but if 
I'd had Neena here first I wouldn't have done that.  I'm 
primarily a dog user, not a cane user, though I do fine with my 
cane, and in fact am getting a new (used) long white cane from a 
friend in my state affiliate because she isn't using it.  And 
when all the nasty ice and snow go away, I'll go out for a walk 
with my cane on occasion, just to remember what it's like, and 
why I'm primarily a dog user.  But I know that doesn't work well 
for everybody.  But I figure, new dog, new neighborhood, learn it
