[nagdu] follow Command

Hi Danielle,
I agree with Rox. I do follow the same way. Eva was not taught follow at
her guide dog school but, with consistent practice she very quickly became
an excellent follower. Having the person call her name to get her attention
has not caused any problems for us. I don't know what the deal is about not
mentioning the name. I think it gets the dog's attention so they will then
be expecting and listening for your next command. As I said, practice,
practice. In time, she will get better and more consistent. Good luck.
Sandra and Eva

Danielle,
I'm Deafblind and I'll tell you what I do.
I first set it up and have her follow. Then I have the person we're
following, check back every so often and if they notice her starting to lose
track, they will call her name, and that reminds her what she is supposed
to be doing.
I know for some people, it's a big no-no for other folks to know or use
their dog's name when she's working but my opinion is that we are all
different and I do what works for me, which may not work for someone else.
I have never had a problem with my dog getting distracted or putting me into
danger by someone calling her name.
Good luck!
